Pandora Hearts – The Male Lead Done Right

Since I’m only really faithfully following two shows in this Winter season, I’ve been making quick work of some of my backlogged anime series. Pandora Hearts is one I’ve had my eye on, but I wanted to wait for something to spark my interest. Well, my friend recently picked it up and burned through it in a matter of two or three days and pestered urged me to check it out. Lucky for him, he knows what buttons to push to get me to watch something and managed to link me a to a couple short snippets of a few of the hilarious moments in the show. That pretty much sold me right there, as I’m a sucker for any series which can handle comedy well.

Then once I started watching the series myself, I found myself really enthralled by it. The first three or four episodes are incredibly overwhelming, but that’s usually something I attribute to a universe that’s just teeming with potential for a great story. There’s tons of mystery and solving those mysteries is extremely enticing to me. But before I ramble on for another paragraph about nothing in particular, I want to get to what impressed me the most about Pandora Hearts: Oz.

Er… no that’s not quite what I mean.

Hidamari Sketch

I honestly have no idea what I’m going to write in this post, because there’s really nothing to Hidamari Sketch other than comedy, but that’s why I want to make a post. Hidamari Sketch is easily one of my top favorite anime of all time and I really wish I had gotten around to watching it sooner.

TAKE IT ALL OFF YOSHINOYA-SENSEI! :3

Baka to Test to Shokanju – 01

I had a dream last night. In my dream, Baka to Test to Shokanju kept up with the pace it set for itself in the first episode for the whole series, never letting things get dull. If only this dream would come true, Baka Test might end up being one of my favorite anime of all time.

As you can probably tell, I was very impressed with Baka Test’s first episode. They never let the episode get dragged down into huge long exposition, but kept the story moving along while still managing to work in plenty of really amusing gags.

But what really surprises me is that Baka Test has even managed to surpass my expectations. Back almost a year ago, an article on moetron caught my eye. At first glance, I thought it was a fanart of Takara Miyuki from Lucky Star. But when I read it, the story had me interested, and as you may know, I’m a big Miyuki fan, so a character of practically the same mold (minus the megane), was something I had to at least check out. Since the article had nothing about a release date, I just kept it in the back of my mind. Then, finally, it popped up in this Winter’s line up. From my past experiences, I’ve tried to keep my expectations really low, because I almost always end up disappointed by something I thought would be really awesome. But I’d been waiting for Baka Test for pretty much three seasons, so it was hard to tone down my excitement. The fact that it managed to surpass those expectations with the first episode is pretty impressive and a pleasant surprise to me.

That said, it needs to keep up the pace and keep things interesting through the entire season, something that’s not exactly easy. But so far, the premise is interesting, the characters are great and work well together, so I still have hope. Even if it doesn’t keep up the pace, I think it’ll be well worth the watch and I’m sure I’ll be following Baka Test through to the end.
