And the first topic: Code Geass. I loved this series, it was fucking fabulous. But I was really frustrated with the ending. And, of course, with all the speculation that followed the ending. It frustrates me to no end to not have a really.. not so much a clear cut solid ending, but it was left way too open. Too many loose threads are still flying around out there in the void that is the Geassverse.
The biggest is, is Lelouch alive or dead? The problem, there’s just too little evidence. I was going to try to sort this into for and against him being alive, but in the end I just want to ramble, so sort it out for yourself~
The first is C.C. at the very end, talking to Lelouch, or so it seems. The actual conversation is really vague, but she tilts her head back. Is she talking to the sky/World of C? Or is she talking to Lelouch the cart driver? :p The thing is though, he made a promise to her, he wanted her to die smiling. She trusts him, and he trusts her. And he also really does want to see her smile. So would he really, at the height of his power, when he’s perfectly poised to grant her wish, just get killed with no plan in place? I don’t really think she’d be smiling at the end if he were dead and gone, even if she could talk to him.
Now, on that point, many people have stated that C.C. could only talk like that with Marianne, because of the nature of her Geass, which was to ’store’ her heart/soul in another person and use it to basically usurp power of the body if she chose to. I would counter with this: In episode 19 of R1, C.C. talks with someone (who we assume is Marianne) about intervening on Shikinejima. Here’s what she says (according to GG’s subs):
“God damn it, it’s all because of your pranks that I have to argue with a boring man. Kallen is on the island as well? What bad taste, pretending to be an observer.”
Seems reasonable that she’s talking to Marianne, but the problem comes in episode 14 of R2, when Lelouch asks if V.V. was the one watching them on Kaminejima. Here’s the conversation (again according to GG’s subs):
Lelouch: “Were you the one who kidnapped Nunnally during the Tokyo battle? And the one who gathered me, Suzaku, and the others at Kaminejima, while posing as an observer?”
V.V: “Yes, that’s right.”
You can interpret this in two ways. One: C.C. can talk to other people related to the World of C (either immortals/Code bearers, or even the dead I suppose). Two: Marianne was observing them on Kaminejima as well. The problem with that is that V.V. believes Marianne to be dead, and Marianne hates V.V., so why would she work with him to observe them on Kaminejima? Maybe she did it on her own, but how would Marianne, as Anya, manage to get onto the island to observe? Her Knightmare? Everyone would be like, “Anya where the fuck are you going?!”
So it’s possible that C.C. could be conversing with Lelouch in some subconscious way, through the World of C or something. However, I still get the feeling that he was right there, or physically SOMEWHERE. Even if she could talk to him at any time, I think she’d still be sad if his presence faded from the world.
The second thing is dealing with the Codes, which we have so little information about in the first place. Did Lelouch inherit his Father’s Code when he ‘killed’ him? Did he take the Code from C.C. before doing the whole staged execution thing? Of course, this all assumes that you believe he’s alive, so this is more of an explanation than a theory on him being alive.
People seem to be convinced that people die when their Code is taken from them, but that’s not entirely true. The nun was just a crazy bitch and once she pawned her Code off on C.C., she killed herself. When Charles took V.V.’s Code, he was still alive, although pretty badly injured from the fight. So he died from the injuries that he couldn’t heal without his Code. But he was definitely alive AFTER getting his Code taken away, because he talked, albiet briefly, with C.C. about the fate of immortality and what not.
So, there’s two possibilities. Lelouch got the Code from his father (absolutely nothing supporting this). Or Lelouch took C.C.’s Code (not much to support this either). Since there’s really not much support for either of these things, it’s hard to tell which happened, if either at all. I think this might be one of the things that they wanted to intentionally leave open, and I’m fine with that. I like to believe he inherited his father’s Code, and him and C.C. can spend an eternity together, happily ever after, the end durray~ Whether that happened or not, who knows?
Oh yeah, there was also stuff about Lelouch Lamperouge becoming L.L. or R.R. aka R2, the name of the second season. While this is a pretty nice pickup, it’s not really something you can say is really good evidence that he’s alive and he’s immortal. It’s just something that lines up nicely if he IS immortal.
Oh.. that’s right, this was supposed to be a post about how there were so many loose ends, yet I only talked about one. Ok, so, other things: C.C.’s real name. We’re all dying to know. Plx 2 tell us Sunrise. Another thing: How the fuck did Ogi become the Prime Minister or whatever the hell he is? He’s a fucking horrible leader. Maybe he’s better at diplomacy than battle? I kinda doubt it, he sucked at politics in the series.
Ok, so maybe that’s all that was left open. I’m sure there’s more, but I’m just forgetting it, because I marathoned Gundam 00 last night and that’s fresher in my mind.
Well, this kinda ended up being more one sided than I intended, I’m guessing you can tell I hope Lelouch is alive :p Anyway, that’s all the rambling I can come up with for now, maybe I’ll add more stuff later on if I suddenly have a brainwave.
