It seems to be happening a lot recently, now that my fall semester has ended and I’m doing fuck all until classes starts up again in January, I just can’t get enough animus. I stumble upon a post or a fansub group that seems decent, and I just gobble up more and more animus. And so, today’s marathon was Strike Witches~
Tsundere alert!
So, why Strike Witches? Honestly, I can’t even remember how or why I came across the title, but I found a bunch of moderately recent torrents, so I figured I’d give it a shot. Oh yeah, that’s what happened, I ended up on the Strike Subs webpage somehow, I think probably from some other random blog or fansub group. I think I remember seeing reviews of Strike Witches on Random Curiousity back when I was still watching Geass R2, so I decided to grab all the episodes of Strike Witches to see how it was.
Well, I did remember something about it being about a bunch of girls saving the world or something, but I didn’t expect it to be so fanservicey. At first, it was kinda annoying, but eventually I guess I just got used to it. I’m not going to make excuses for this show, because it is what it is, a show about a bunch of cute girls with typical archetypes (Perrine you tsundere you) flying around in swimsuits and underwear, with the added bonus of yuri vibes. Even still, I found the series to be rather amusing. As I said back in my Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu post, I seem to be in a mood to watch anything that’s not too heavy. I think after stuff like Geass, Clannad, Chaos;Head, and Gundam 00, I’ve been dying for some simplistic, easy to follow animus. Yep, I’m a simpleton, but I’m ok with that.
So, how was Strike Witches? Well, it made me laugh quite a bit, which was pretty much all I was looking for, so to that end, I can’t say I’m not happy I watched it. Still, it’s your average fanservice filled, moe packed series that tries to add a little action and a shallow amount of drama. To that end, I think it kinda failed. The action was fun, but there was honestly no point to it at all. Everyone has shields, hardly anyone ever gets injured, there really aren’t a whole lot of explanations as to these powers and such, plus it ends on such a bland note. I figured Yoshika was going to pull a Ranka and side with the Neuroi, and then we’d find out that they really aren’t all that bad and it was just a giant misunderstanding. But instead, the Warlock thing, which I guess was made from another Neuroi, goes berserk, then they all have to kill it… and that just happens to vaporize the Neuroi hive?
Anyway, if you’re looking for a rather silly and slightly ecchi series to watch, Strike Witches can fill that void. If you’re looking for a decent action series with plots that make sense, you might want to keep looking.
Oh and yes, I totally borrowed this title from JP and Hinano.
EDIT: Aha, I knew there was something I was forgetting! For once, I recognized a seiyuu instantly. Nazuka Kaori voices Lynette Bishop, and the moment she opened her mouth, I knew who it was. I guess it helped that I had just watched some Code Geass, but yeah, just felt like adding that in there. Kinda boring that she played a very similar role to Nunnally, in that she was a useless moe character, only this time with big breasts, rather than as a loli.

I tried watching (and blogging) the anime because it had free streams with fansubs, but I got bored, missed an episode, and didn’t feel like paying or stealing it because posts told me the episode was nothing I wanted to see.
I loved Mio-sama though. Mio was pure AWESOME voiced by Saeko Chiba who is awesome all on her own. So many roles. She can voice crazy Nina from Code Geass, traps (which requires two voices), and a bludgeoning angel named Dokuro-chan. Sakeo Chiba is awesome (got off-track).

@Fuyu: Yeah, I couldn’t believe that was Nina of all people. I thought I recognized her, but I was way off base.
@Kitsune: Haha, yeah, you could say that. I was trying to stave off boredom until my Zero no Tsukaima season 1 boxed set came. Speaking of that, I need to make a post for Zero no Tsukaima~
