Well, since my last post was so late, I’m going to make this one super early! Also because I’m going to do a giant marathon tomorrow, so I probably won’t want to break the marathon momentum to make this post.
From the moment I heard about the Twelve Moments of Anime project over on Mega Megane Moe, I knew Clannad 17 was going to be one of my moments. Not surprisingly, it was one of CCY’s as well. Since he posted it so early in his line-up, I decided to hold mine off until a bit later down the line. And since I’ve got my #02 and #01 days set in stone, this is the latest I could put off this moment.
I warn you now, this will be filled with lots of Kyou fanboying. This is another post that I’ve been dying to do ever since I marathoned Clannad back at the beginning of the Fall season.
Let’s rewind just a second here. By the time I got to episode 17 of Clannad, I came to realize that nothing happens by chance. So when Tomoya recites that cute little charm and then finds out what it’s about, I thought the exact opposite of what Tomoya was thinking at the time.
I didn’t think it was going to happen that quickly though. Oh goodness the misunderstandings and hilarity between Kyou and Tomoya was just too much. My mind was going into overdrive, not only from the hilarity, but also from the giant blast of dere from the typically tsun Kyou.
Tsunderes blushing, ah, I’m in heaven :3
This was a really interesting twist. Tomoya shouts out that he considered Kyou a worthy person with which to be locked in a storage room, which completely changes the mood from Kyou being angry and scared at being taken advantage of, to her suddenly trying to work through her feelings towards Tomoya.
After that, the mood of the scene went from humor and misunderstandings to serious emotional exploration. And really, this is where Kyou’s dere shines full force, as she tries to justify her feelings to herself. Not to mention trying to justify acting on them. You can tell she’s trying to find a loophole that would allow her to act on these emotions while not ‘betraying’ Ryou, which is a huge sign, more than any of her tsundereness towards Tomoya, that she has some really deep feelings for him.
I feel like I had more to say, but then I just started staring at Kyou blushing and my mind went blank :x
Unfortunately, we’re woken from our reverie in Kyou’s emotions by Tomoya’s sudden realization. Of course, the first time I watched through this, my mind was too overwhelmed by Kyou’s giant blast of dere to remember that the charm had an anti-charm, so when Tomoya started ripping off his tie and shirt, my jaw literally dropped. I really only barely had time to think: “Is he really going to do this?” before he started chanting the anti-charm.
Kyou’s stammering here brought us back to the hilarity. Ah Kyou, you’re adorable :3
And so, unfortunately, we’re stopped short of the goal line, and Kyou didn’t get to really come to terms with her feelings in time before she was blitzkreiged by Tomoya’s sudden stripping. Ah well, even though I’m a sucker for tsunderes, it’s probably a good thing this didn’t go any further, because then I would’ve had a harder time saying that Nagisa was the one for Tomoya.
I think that’s all I have for now, so I’ll wrap it up with one of my all time favorite pictures of Kyou~
