Kimi Kiss – First Impressions

So, when I opened up the first episode and the opening sequence was the first thing to start up, I was kinda overwhelmed. It was just way too much moe all at once, my brain was about to explode. From the opening, just based on looks alone, I liked Futami Eriko best. And I liked Mao the least, not sure why, but the braids didn’t really do much for me.

I was even less impressed with Mao when it turned out she was the typical “oh hey I’m moving in with my non-blood related brother who still calls me oneechan.” Ugh, can we please stop this? Please. There must be some other way to set a premise for romance anime. This is why I really liked H2O, Hayami didn’t move in with Hirose until after there was already a relationship between them. But thank god she’s not really interested in him and vice versa. I still won’t be surprised if something happens with them, but at least for now, she’s actually acting like a sister, even though she’s not.

And actually, after Mao started actually acting like an older sister would, I started to like her a lot more. Unfortunately, the reason she had to act is because, well, duh, the male lead is a spineless dumbass. And the girl he’s after is also rather spineless herself, and oblivious. Please, spare me. This is why I like tsunderes more. Instead of blushing furiously and barely being able to say hello, a tsundere would blush furiously and say, “I-It’s not like I want to go with you, but since you invited me and it’s a celebration for someone else, f-fine I’ll go!” Why I find that more endearing than just blushing and barely being able to say anything is beyond me, but I guess that’s just my preference.

So yeah, I know I’ve got two marathons kinda going on at the same time, but even I was starting to get a little bit tired of Naoki’s tsundereness in Itazura na Kiss. But I think I might go back to that, because Kimi Kiss is not impressing me at all. It’s got some great seiyuu, but the story just… flops. If there’s a reason to keep watching Kimi Kiss and I’m just not there yet, please do tell (without spoiling too badly), because I’m only on the 4th episode and already I’m getting tired of it.

I started out by liking Mao but ended up liking her less by the end. I was actually rather dissatisfied with the ending, to tell the truth, because it felt “unearned.” But hope you enjoy it anyway–it’s a good show, and at its best it’s excellent, especially considering the Honey and Clover staff worked on it.

I did not finish this anime because of all the the disappointment that ensued from the end. Just reading about it disappointed me.

Eriko is the best though! I should at least finish the anime because I like her storyline a lot.

Really…I just think that KimiKiss is the rare anime that absolutely sucks as a marathon. It’s got a slow story, but that story is more enjoyable when you just take it one episode at a time. Maybe just watch one episode every day (or every other day or heck, just once a week) and you’ll find it more enjoyable.

Haha, all this talk about the ending being disappointing or weird has me thinking Akane Iro all over again, especially after watching the 11th episode. Must investigate further!
