Koukaku no Regios – 01

Well, what can I say? So far, this series isn’t doing much to stand out. The first thing that came to mind was that the enemy ‘bugs’ reminded me a lot of the Vajra from Macross Frontier.

It also feels like a similar idea to the Macross universe itself. Humankind is forced into small, mobile settlements to survive, while being attacked by an alien species that pretty much looks like really overgrown insects.

I’m sure quite a few of the voice actors are people I’ve heard before, but the information on the series is scarce and I’m not even sure I know the names of anyone yet. I swear this chick is being played by Cornelia’s VA though, but there’s no information about her.

So anyway, the opening fight didn’t seem all that fascinating. Three guys team up to fight off the giant ass ever regenerating bug. I really hope this was an abnormal bug, because if all the enemies they fight are going to be able to regenerate in three seconds, it’s going to get pretty old, pretty fast.

The other thing that concerns me, I’m getting harem vibes from this show. If it ends up just being a lame harem show wrapped up in a sci-fi universe, I’ll be terribly disappointed.

csr0106

Yep, the harem is shaping up quite nicely already.

csr0107

Hey look it’s Jade! another aloof guy with glasses played by Takehito Koyasu. Hopefully he can be as fabulous as Jade, although I’m sensing some evil vibes from him already, even though I have no fucking clue what he was talking about.

csr0108

So, the main character gets roped into hanging out with the crazy blonde chick. And after they part ways, we add the mysterious bishoujo to the harem:

csr0109

Well, I know who I’ll be shipping already >_>

csr0110

Although I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up with the chick who he came in and saved spectacularly at the last moment. I guess he has like super speed or something, because I swear he was like halfway across the courtyard and then came bounding back and saved her before the ceiling came crashing down on her. Needless to say, she’ll be head over heels for the guy for the entire series.

But there is hope! Prince Ali al-Saachez has been resurrected and forced to dye his hair in an attempt to hide his identity. Fear not, he has lost none of his bloodlust in the process! Unfortunately, I think that this fight sequence was rather far in the past. I’m pretty sure Jade the megane dude was shown there when he was a kid, so chances are, Prince Ali isn’t around anymore. Or if he is, he’s too old to be awesome anymore. But I hope that he was allowed to die a glorious death in battle. After all, that is the greatest honor for a warrior.

Ok, so seriously, the fight scenes weren’t bad, but they weren’t special either. After watching Kurokami, this seems tame and boring. Bugs that can regenerate to the point of needing to be vaporized to be defeated do not make good enemies. It just gives them an easy way to drag out fights as long as they need to for effect. Not a good way to go. The characters are just average so far. The amount of girls that were showcased in comparison to the male protagonist has me rather worried that it really is just going to be a badly concealed harem show. I’d love for Koukaku no Regios to prove me wrong, but I’m not going to hold my breath. Still, it seems to have plenty of talent onboard, perhaps it can still manage to float somehow. I’ll still give this a few more episodes before I decide whether to continue or not.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot, we also have another Sunohara really annoying sidekick character. But anyway, more importantly, here’s a few action shots that I left out initially.

Oh and the one where he saves the girl, of course~

EDIT: Well, things are looking a little better now. I’m thinking they were making a big deal out of that super regenerating bug because it was abnormal. Hopefully all fights aren’t like that. I do have to agree with what someone  (I forget who) said about the music during the fights. It was pretty freaking awesome.

Also, it looks like Jade the megane dude is just as fabulous and underhanded as Jade. I’m thinking he set up that entire fight and even asked that one dude to quit the 17th platoon or whatever it was. I still feel like it’s eventually going to turn into a harem, but who knows. Actually, that might be a bit more entertaining, we could have some love triangle dramas~

Sigh. Generic anime again. I will be reserving final judgment till I watch this, but it was never high priority on my list. Now to hope Ride Back does not screw up.

Yeah, I do hope Ride Back turns out nicely. I just don’t know about this anime though. It just didn’t do anything spectacular on the first episode, so it’ll really have to try hard to impress me with the next two or three. If not, it’ll be in the drop pile.

Actually i preffer the manga, the anime is not apealing to me and the manga gives me more of a feeling that hes going to end up with the white haired one.

Er, you don’t really understand the dialogue do you?

Anyway the fighting is like shit, but I like the battle school setting. It’s quite fresh, and has elements of er Volcano High and even MxO.

No, I think I said I had no idea what was going on :p

A school setting with fights breaking out is new? D: It’s not bad, but not great either.
