Fate/Stay Night – Unlimited Blade Works

Well, I think it’s safe to say, I’m completely obsessed with Tohsaka Rin. Not that I wasn’t already from the anime and from the Fate route, but holy shit Unlimited Blade Works just showed how fucking awesome she really is.

rinwindow

The entire Unlimited Blade Works route was awesome in itself, but Rin being the focus just made it even better. I’m not really a big fan of Shirou, but then I’m guessing there aren’t really many people who think he’s all that awesome. So even though I had to bear through some annoying bits of Shirou being a dumbass, all the back stabbing and crazy plot twists in UBW made it so much fun that I think I finished this route in 3 days, maybe not even that. Compare that to Fate, which took me over a week to finish. It helped that not a lot of the anime was based on what happens in UBW, as it seems to focus mostly on Fate, with a bit from Heaven’s Feel thrown in (I think?). But in any case, I doubt Heaven’s Feel will be anywhere near as fun for me as UBW was.

I felt kinda sad that Saber didn’t really get a proper farewell from Shirou and Rin, but in the end, it was fitting. I’m not sure whether I got the ‘True’ end or the ‘Good’ end, but to me, it was the Best. End. Evar.

rinhappy

I was really impressed with how much more focus Lancer got in UBW. Him and Berserker/Ilya got their roles reversed from Fate. Speaking of that, as evil as Ilya can be, that was really sad. Malevolent lolis have feelings too! Ugh, I really felt like Gilgamesh ripped my heart out at that time. But on the plus side, Lancer got a well fucking deserved end. I was really kinda annoyed that he had a boring off screen death in Fate, but they fully made up for that in UBW with him being even more of smart ass than Archer. He teased Rin mercilessly when you tell him that you’ll only partner with him if he keeps away from Rin, it was an awesome tag team tease.

rinbatting

And just when I was worried that the worst was going to happen to Rin, Lancer shows his GAR and beats the shit out of not only Kotomine, but Shinji as well. Ugh, I have a feeling I’m really going to hate Heaven’s Feel. More Sakura probably means more Shinji too, huh?

rinshirou

Also, an amusing lolmeta moment. I find it hilariously paradoxical that Archer comes into Shirou’s time, and that Shirou gains his power, knowledge, and fighting technique from his future self. Even though his future self should’ve never seen his future self. Is it the chicken or the egg omg oh noez!!11!1 D: Oh wait, my friend brought up a good point. Maybe the Shirou from UBW won’t ever even become his future GARcher self. Then again, I’m not sure I really agree that he won’t. He’s still pounding that stupid ideal into his brain, so he’ll probably keep on going with it anyway, because he said he wouldn’t have regrets about it.

rinlunch

Man, I really am hopelessly obsessed with Rin. Even though the end was really happy, I was getting a bit misty because of how fucking awesome it was. FUCK YES TOHSAKA RIN END! Ok, I’m done. Really.

I need to give myself more time to play UBW. :|

  2. One thing I like about Fate is the paradox of Archer/Shirou. (ie the duality of how Archer disliked his past and hos Shirou affirms his future path and such)

Haven’t played Heaven’s Feel but Dark Sakura and Dark Saber should make up for I dont know, lots of things maybe.

Lancer: The only servant in UBW that’s almost as badass as archer.

    @Bocom: Yes you do!

@LC: Yeah, it’s pretty interesting, I’m just kinda surprised that Archer ends up regretting it. Shirou doesn’t seem to think it’s regrettable, so how did he end up regretting it anyway?

@xephfyre: I’d say Lancer is more badass than Archer in UBW, he’s awesome. Well, ok, Archer is pretty badass in the final fight, so maybe they’re about the same :p

  5. Cant really rmbr, but I think there was a backstory about Shirou(as Archer) got backstabbed or smthg, got into despair about humaity.

@LC: Yeah, I guess he decided he got betrayed by his own ideal in the end and grew bitter about it. I just find it weird, because Shirou saw the same thing and said in the end he wouldn’t have any regrets. I guess that’s because Archer had plenty of time to brood on it.

Who cares, Heaven’s Feel is the best. Closest thing we have to Rider end, woop!

For the UBW, it’s sad that we did not get much more about Illya. I wish some of the after novels are translated though because that would be cool. The cool thing about is that it also talks more about Illya’s past including how she really is related to Shirou.

Yeah! UBW is the best! Rin is the best! And im not pissed at Shiro so much =\ Maybe not pissed at all…
Somehow prefer true end over good.

The True End made me cry, and the “Rin’s Harem” End was pretty much the only all-around happy one.
Archer takes GARness, slow roasts it over an open fire, slathers BBQ-Of-Greatness on it, then eats it barehanded. I mean, Blocking Gae Bolg (Lancer is a close 2nd by the way), Fighting Shirou, losing intentionally, taking who knows how many swords from Gilgamesh, Then observing the final battle from afar, saving Rin, and then *BoomHeadshot* on Gilgamesh! After the GAR-overdose, The farewell scene broke me down, and I cried.

Incidentally, Rin is hawt. Like, really hawt. My favorite Fate girl. Favorite Rin Crowning Moment of Awesome: Rushing Caster with her bare hands and (nearly) winning! Freaking scary.

Whoa, totally almost missed these comments. I can’t agree with you more about the pure awesomeness that is Rin. And honestly, I liked Lancer just a tiny bit more than Archer. If I were to pick a servant, Lancer’d be my man. Of course, if Rin could be a servant.. well.. *ahem*
