Amagami – 04, Shiki – 03, BRS, and more

July 28, 2010

Group post because I’m both late and lazy.

Unreal doesn’t even begin to cover it.

I’m not really sure what I can say about this arc other than thank goodness it’s over. Oh, and can we have a Hibiki arc? She’s much more my type, I’ll take her over Haruka any day. Oh well, Kaoru’s arc is next and I just hope it’s not nearly as bizarre and outrageous as this one was.

Shiki

That sure was some thorough check up you gave her when she came in the first time, Doc. The fact that you let her go home after seeing she had the exact same symptoms as Megumi aside, not noticing two holes in her arm where you can’t possibly miss them is beyond incompetent. Let me guess, Megumi had those holes in her arm too and you completely missed them too.

Well no wonder you didn’t die you moron. At least if you’re going to make me squirm, try not to make me facepalm at the same time. Take a lesson from this monk, down the road not across the street.

Come on Shiki, I’m trying so hard to give you a chance. I want to like you but this is beyond just having ignorant or stupid characters. Not to mention we’re already three episodes in and hardly anything has happened. And quirky villains need to be that much darker when the cards are on the table for them to be really menacing, but they’re not delivering at all. Let’s get a move on, eh?

Campanella

I’m having a hard time figuring out why I’m still enjoying this series, but I guess I’ve been in the mood for any type of fantasy recently. Maybe because I can turn my brain off and am not forced to listen to the same “killing is bad” speeches over and over again. It probably helps that I love the art and characters too. Even the Tortilla sisters are starting to grow on me.

Legend of the Legendary Heroes

I was a bit late to start watching this show, but it’s quickly taking priority over most of the other stuff I’m watching. The comedy is pretty good and you can never have enough Lelouch Ryner obliterating people. I figured I’d find Takagaki Ayahi unbearable as Ferris, but she’s a lot more tolerable when she’s whining about not getting enough food than when she’s whining about not being strong enough. *cough* Nina *cough*

Black Rock Shooter

I’ll start by saying I wasn’t really following the hype and had no idea what this show was going to be like. After looking around at other reactions, apparently neither did anyone else.

While I wish there was a lot more time spent on the Otherworld fighting and such, I was surprised at how I was taken in by the story of Mato and Yomi. For the first twenty minutes or so time seemed to drag and I kept wondering when they’d get back to the Otherworld and do some more fighting, but at some point I actually started to forget about that and be absorbed by the story. Maybe something about this particular story, which is nothing new at all, managed to hit home for me. When Black Rock Shooter broke free of the chains and pulled Yomi out of Dead Master’s clutches, I actually found myself getting choked up. For the first time in a long time, the emotion of the scene really touched me.

The action in the Otherworld was just as good, if not better. I liked that it was completely without dialogue. For once, it was just characters fighting against each other, instead of fighting for ten seconds and then talking at each other for a minute. Although I guess that’s what the inter-weaved high school plot was for. Still, I think I prefer this to the former.

Anyway, I guess now I’m sold on being a Dead Master fan. I just can’t hate on a girl who knows how to use a scythe and chains and has a black and green color scheme. Dead Master, take me now.
