Amagami – 05
I think Kaoru might be a little touched in the head for wanting to get relationship advice from Junichi.
Ah, this was everything I hoped for and more. Good and bad, actually. Maybe I missed it in the first arc because I was too busy staring in awe at Haruka’s increasing bizarreness, but damn Junichi lay off the lecher juice. Yeah I think Kaoru’s damn hot too but you don’t see me trying to look up her skirt while she’s serving you. At least pretend to be subtle about it and try to catch a glimpse while she’s walking away.
Also, exploring your delusions outloud in a public place is a very bad idea. It was nice to see Hibiki again though. I’m going to hope that Hibiki is also good friends with Nanasaki Ai and that we’ll be seeing more of Hibiki in her arc as well.
Kaoru with her hair up in a ponytail was icing on the already delicious cake.
But most of all, there was some pretty good comedy for once. In Haruka’s arc, I didn’t really feel that there was any sort of chemistry between Junichi and Haruka other than Junichi managing to keep her from getting bored. But between Junichi and Kaoru there’s some really good comic chemistry. While that might not exactly be great for a relationship, it’s nice to see them actually being able to joke back and forth as opposed to Junichi just stuttering and bumbling around. It’s also refreshing to see him actually disagree with Kaoru or at least state his mind. I think that’s part of what felt so weird in Haruka’s arc, it felt like she was completely taking advantage of his infatuation by making him do all sorts of crazy things and he just went along with it.
Kaoru’s ED feels like it has almost exactly the opposite problem that Haruka’s ED had. Satou Rina’s voice seems to be overwhelmed by the accompaniment, instead of the other way around like it was with Itou Shizuka’s voice overwhelming the accompaniment. I still really liked it, but I think they needed to turn down the volume on the accompaniment to bring Rina’s voice to the forefront.

Well, the thing with ‘managing to keep Haruka from being bored’ is that that’s only how it started, right? Pacing, etc., but in the end Haruka loves him for his interests, his demeanor, and so on. I think it worked out pretty nicely.
Though yes, this episode was electrifying. I got my hopes up for this series as Haruka’s arc proved “realistic” in my semi-sardonic book, and was afraid that those hopes would be dashed on the rocks of a subpar second story. Looks like that’s not happening =D
(P.S. Junichi’s advice was pretty solid.)
Yeah, I was actually surprised, he had some pretty sound advice.
And I guess his persistence and readiness/willingness to do whatever Haruka came up with was part of what won her over. Maybe I’m just more selfish than Junichi and wouldn’t want to have to do that myself and that’s why I view it as unrealistic.
Haha, I’m waiting for the arc where Junichi’s advice to Keiko is to put out on the first date, like Haruka.
